TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation will host a Health and Education
Fair on Friday, May 2, at the new Cherokee Elder Care facility, located
at 1387 West 4th Street. The event is sponsored by Cherokee Elder Care,
Cherokee Nation Home Health and Hospice of the Cherokee and will run
from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The Health Fair will provide elders, caregivers and others the
opportunity to receive free health screenings, including blood pressure
and blood sugar checks, breathing and lung capacity checks, vision
checks and more. In addition, vital health educational materials will be
provided by the nearly 40 vendors scheduled to be at the event.
Cherokee Elder Care is a program that will provide comprehensive care
and meet the medical and social needs of the elderly. To qualify for the
program, participants must be age 55, be certified by the state as
needing nursing home level of care, live in the program’s service area,
and be able to be safely cared for in the community. Participation is
open to all persons who qualify for the program, and all services are
provided through Medicare and Medicaid. Inpatient services, temporary
nursing home and hospital care, and dental services are provided through
partnerships with contracted providers. A participant does not have to
be a citizen of the Cherokee Nation or Native American in order to
qualify for care.
Cherokee Nation Home Health Services is a state-licensed home health
care agency that provides life-enhancing home and community-based health
services to those in need, and is not limited to Cherokee citizens or
Native Americans.
The Health and Education Fair is free and the public is invited to
