TAHLEQUAH, OK — Linda Squirrel, a Cherokee Nation employee, has been selected by the United States Secretary of Transportation to serve as the national representative for tribal EMS programs.

Special projects officer with Cherokee Nation EMS, Linda Squirrel, was selected among nominees from across the country to serve a two-year term on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council (NEMSAC).

“We are very pleased the Secretary chose Linda as the representative for the tribal EMS programs,” said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. “Linda will provide sound advice and recommendations to the group on development of EMS projects.”

The NEMSAC serves as an advisory body to the Department of Transportation and is charged with providing advice concerning the Department’s EMS activities.

Squirrel was selected among many nominees to serve as the tribal EMS representative. Currently, there are nearly 100 tribal EMS programs in the United States.

“The Department is fortunate to have received a significant number of nominations from talented individuals, and we have selected a strong group of members to help guide EMS programs,” said Mary Peters, Secretary of Transportation for the U.S. Department of Transportation. “We look forward to advancing our goal of providing a world-class EMS system here in the United States.”
