TAHLEQUAH, Oklahoma - If you have a working farm or ranch, you could be
sitting on top of a way to make extra income and not even know it. The
Cherokee Nation is holding a special workshop to help get area residents
involved in Oklahoma’s newest tourism wave: agritourism. The
Orientation to Agritourism workshop will be held on May 5, at 6 p.m. in
the Council Chambers at the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex, located at 17675
S. Muskogee Ave.
For those who have always dreamed of using their land for a potential business but were not really sure of the opportunities available, the Agritourism workshop will offer an overview of the potential business and tourism prospects agritourism presents. According to the Oklahoma Agritourism Program, agritourism encompasses a wide variety of businesses, from modest endeavors as simple as birding or growing a few specialty crops, such as culinary herbs, to operating a guest ranch, winery or country inn. Examples of successful agritourism businesses include pick-it-yourself pumpkin patches, Christmas tree farms and corn mazes. Agritourism is family-friendly, and is for anyone who owns a working farm or ranch and is willing to invite the public in to learn, do hands-on activities or even just to relax. The Orientation to Agritourism workshop is sponsored by Cherokee Nation’s Commerce Group in partnership with the Oklahoma Agritourism Program. There is no cost to attend and the workshop is open to the public. For more information, call 918-453-5728 or send e-mail to: donna-tinnin@cherokee.org. |
