TAHLEQUAH, Oklahoma — The Cherokee Nation will accept applications
for qualified Native American families to get on the home ownership
waiting list in several areas. This list will be used to fill available
re-inventoried homes in Washington, Tulsa, Rogers, Craig and Nowata
Counties. The first 25 complete applications will be accepted for each
county.
This program, offered through Cherokee Nation Housing Services, provides home ownership opportunities for Native Americans. The head of the household or spouse must be a citizen of a federally recognized tribe and meet income guidelines and all other requirements of the program. Cherokee preference will apply. Housing Services staff will be available on site to distribute and accept applications from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, May 11, 2009, at the Vinita Cherokee Nation Housing Services Office located at 900 McNelis Ave 31-B and the Nowata Cherokee Nation Housing Service Office located at115-A Wauhillau Ct. Applications can be picked up or submitted in person on May 18, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 3p.m. at the Bartlesville Cherokee Nation Housing Service Office located at 1003 S. Virginia Ave. Applications will also be accepted for Tulsa and Rogers Counties from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, May 25, 2009, at the Cherokee Nation Housing Service Office located on 23205 S. Highway 66 in Claremore. If they prefer, applicants may instead request an application be mailed to them by calling 918-342-2433. Additionally, the Cherokee Nation will accept the first 25 applications, beginning on May 18 for qualified Native American families to get on a waiting list for one, two, three and four bedroom apartments at the Cherokee Village in Catoosa. Applications for rentals can also be picked up or submitted in person on May 18, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 3p.m. at the Bartlesville Cherokee Nation Housing Service Office. Cherokee preference will apply. The security deposit will be waived, but tenants will be responsible for paying their own utilities. Each family’s rent will be based on 30 percent of adjusted income. The maximum household income limit for the program for one person is $35,850, for a family of two is $40,950, and for a family of five is $55,300. Other guidelines may apply.
