TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation is offering a free prostate cancer
awareness presentation on Friday, January 23, at 10:30 a.m. and at 12
noon in the Cherokee Nation W.W. Hastings Hospital dining room.
According to the tribe’s Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States and is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths. An estimated 2,510 new prostate cancer cases were diagnosed and 280 deaths occurred in 2007 in Oklahoma. The presentation will cover many areas, including general information on the prostate, cancer of the prostate, statistics on prostate cancer, risk factors associated with prostate cancer and signs and symptoms of prostate cancer. Dr. Seth Yandell will also be on hand to answer specific questions from the audience. The presentation is free and open to the public. You do not have to be Native American or have a Certificate Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB) to attend. For more information, call 918-453-5381. |
