TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation was recently honored at the Oklahoma
Governor’s Mansion with the presentation of the Certificate of
Excellence through the Oklahoma Certified Healthy Business Program.
The program recognizes entities that strive to improve Oklahoma’s health
status by providing health and wellness opportunities for their
employees.
“The Cherokee Nation is committed to providing an environment that
encourages and promotes healthy lifestyles not only for employees, but
the entire community as well,” said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the
Cherokee Nation.
The program was initiated in 2003 and to date, less than 500
certificates have been awarded statewide. In order to be recognized as
a Certified Healthy Businesses Program, entities are evaluated on the
availability of health screenings, evaluation and preventive programs,
physical activities offered by your workplace, tobacco use prevention
activities, space for breastfeeding mothers, and healthy menu and
vending items. The Cherokee Nation also received recognition for
enacting a 100% tobacco-free workplace policy.
