CLAREMORE, Oklahoma - The Cherokee Nation recently contributed $5,000
to a Rogers County organization devoted to creating a safe haven for
victims of domestic violence. Claremore’s Safenet Services, Inc. is a
non-profit organization that connects victims of domestic violence with
the help and support they need to heal and triumph over a violent time
in their life.
“Safe and healthy families are the backbone of successful communities,”
said Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith. “Agencies like Safenet
provide essential assistance to create healthy families in our
communities. It gives hurting families a place of shelter and the tools
to heal.”
According to Donna M. Grabow, executive director of Safenet Services,
Inc., the funds from this contribution will go towards curriculum,
videos, books, training, tech support, and transportation needs for
their clients.
“How wonderful to be the recipient of such a contribution,” said Grabow,
“We appreciate Cherokee Nation and all the support they continue to give
us.”
Safenet provides the community with a domestic abuse shelter, individual
and group counseling, parenting classes and a Victim Advocacy Program
where victims are provided with emotional support, receive help
identifying resources and are assisted with referrals.
Last year alone the organization provided temporary shelter to more than
one hundred residents, including 60 adults and 55 children. The
atmosphere is home-like and promotes independent living skills, a
positive influence for children and self-healing through therapy.
