SILOAM SPRINGS, Oklahoma - Thanks to a Cherokee Casino West Siloam Springs sponsored Halloween
party, area food banks recently received more than 350 pounds of canned
food to assist needy families this Holiday season.
The canned foods were split evenly and given Monday to the Hope Center
of Westville, Okla. and the Manna Center of Siloam Springs, Ark.
“Westville is one of the poorer areas in Oklahoma, so we’re always in
need of food,” said James Duffell of the Hope Center. “Demand increases
this time of year, making the need that much greater.”
“All of this food is stuff that’s really needed during this time of
year,” said Lee Netherton, chairman of the board, Manna Center. “We
really appreciate all the help we can get.”
To participate in the casino’s Halloween bash that included a costume
contest, guests were asked to provide at least one canned food item. As
the guests entered the party, the cans were placed in a decorative
coffin that soon overflowed with various foods.
“We are very grateful for the cooperation and compassion our guests
showed by donating so much canned food to help assist our neighbors in
need,” said David Stewart, CEO of Cherokee Nation Entertainment, which
operates Cherokee Casinos and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa. “The
Halloween event was a huge success, and we thought it was a creative way
to make a positive impact while having a good time.”
