“I am very excited about our NAMA nominations,” said Mary Kay Henderson, director of the Cherokee National Youth Choir. “The choir works diligently to keep a balance between old and new and I believe that our most recent album, For Our Future, has done just that.” The two categories the Youth Choir has been nominated for are Best Gospel/Inspirational Recordings and Best Historical Recording. Including the two nominations from this year, the choir will have been nominated a total of 10 times since they first began in 2000. Out of the 10 nominations, four NAMMYS have been awarded to the choir for their hard work and determination. Those who would like to show their support for the Cherokee National Youth Choir may go online to Vote Native or Native American Music Awards and cast their votes to help increase the number of wins. Voting ends on Oct. 3. The Cherokee National Youth Choir was created to serve as ambassadors to increase awareness and knowledge of Cherokee culture and language through song. Through the success of the Youth Choir, interest in the Cherokee language has been rekindled among young people throughout the Cherokee Nation. |
