"Cherokee Nation Tax Commissioner Sharon Swepston and some of her staff display a variety of car tags that may be purchased by citizens through the tribe’s car tag offices. A new location will be opening next week in Sallisaw."
Sallisaw, Oklahoma - The Cherokee Nation will be opening a new tag office to better serve citizens in the tribe’s southernmost counties soon. The doors to the new office will open on Monday, Oct. 5, at 8:30 a.m. It is located in Sallisaw at 1502 West Chickasaw (near Kerr Blvd. just south of First National Bank) where it will share space with Cherokee Nation Career Services,

A special ribbon cutting and open house will be held later in the week on Thursday, Oct. 8, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. to celebrate the opening. Refreshments will be served and tribal officials will be on hand to dedicate the new office.

The Cherokee Nation Sallisaw Tag Office replaces a tribal tag office that had been located in Gore for the past few years. The move is intended to provide better service to tribal citizens. Hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

In addition to the new Sallisaw location, Cherokee Nation also operates tribal tag offices in Tahlequah, Collinsville and Adair. The tag offices are a service provided through the Cherokee Nation Tax Commission. Cherokee Nation’s tag offices give Cherokee Nation citizens living in the 14-county jurisdictional area of the tribe the opportunity to purchase tribal motor vehicle tags. A portion of the revenue from each tag sold is contributed annually to area school districts.
