The first Intertribal Native Radio Summit is slated to take place June 3-7, 2001, on the Warm Springs Reservation in Oregon. The Summit, hosted by KWSO, will bring together representatives from many Native public radio stations who will strategize on ways to strengthen Native radio. In preparation for the June meeting, two dozen station people met at the March 2001 National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB) conference in San Francisco.Peggy Berryhill, Intertribal Native Radio Summit Project Coordinator, was very pleased with the committee turnout at NFCB and the outlook for the summit. "We’re very energized because we feel that Native American Radio is ready to blossom", Berryhill says. "It’s an exciting time for all of us. Our landscape includes 30 stations, the AIROS satellite distribution system, dedicated independent producers, and supportive colleagues in Public Broadcasting. At NFCB many Indian people stopped me and told me that they feel like our time to shine has come."
Visit the AIROS web site for more information. After June 7 notes from the conference will be available on the AIROS web site.
