Buffalo Field Campaign Update

Greetings Buffalo Supporters,

We continue to gather firewood and winterize the cabin in preparation for the coming winter. Recent nighttime temperatures have been frosty, reminding us of the cold ahead and keeping us motivated to cut wood.

The last update contained a misprint. In reporting the results of our summer information table in Yellowstone we reported speaking to 6,500 people who gave "more than $5,0000" for the buffalo. It should have read $5,000.

To those of you who have supported us, we thank you for being so generous with your donations of winter gear, supplies, and financial support. We couldn't be here defending the Yellowstone buffalo without you.

We're still in need of winter gear (cross-country skis, boots, and wool pants) and monetary donations. If you've been considering such a donation, now is the time. Contributions are tax-deductible and go directly to our front-lines presence on the Yellowstone boundary.

An excellent way to support the Campaign and stay up-to-date on the issue is to purchase our new video, "Science and Ecology of the Yellowstone Bison." The video is available through Cold Mountain, Cold Rivers for $20.00. Here's more info on the project:

Video available on Science and Ecology of the Yellowstone Bison

A public forum was held in Bozeman, Montana in March, 2002 featuring views of a bison ecologist, an evangelical minister, a spiritual traditionalist, and an activist videographer on the science and spirituality of Yellowstone's native bison herd.

The video is an informative look at the diverse perspectives challenging today's management of America's last wild native bison herd. It features the following speakers:

Mary Meagher worked in Yellowstone National Park from 1959-1997. From 1968-1997 she was the acting Research Field Ecologist for large mammals. She received her PHD in Vertebrate Zoology from UC Berkley in 1970. Mary is recognized as an expert in Yellowstone bison ecology.

Peter Illyn is a former evangelical minister and current executive director of Restoring Eden. He "Speaks out for those who cannot speak for themselves" [Proverbs 31:8]. He advocates for natural habitats, wild species, and indigenous cultures. Peter's writing has been featured in Outside Magazine, the Utne Reader, and Christianity Today.

Scott Frazier is a Crow tribal member and spiritual traditionalist. He is concerned about the spiritual and physical health of both native and non-native people. Scott is leader of the Ehnamani Sundance Church.

Mike Mease is a co-founder of Cold Mountain, Cold Rivers a non-profit environmental and human rights advocacy group, and Buffalo Field Campaign, a volunteer led group advocating for Yellowstone's native buffalo herd. Mike has produced over twenty environmental and human rights video documentaries.

The video is available for a donation of $20. Send a check or money order to: Cold Mountain, Cold Rivers PO Box 7941 Missoula, MT 59807. Half the proceeds from video donations go to the Buffalo Field Campaign.
