MILWAUKEE WI - The Indian Summer Festival Winter Pow-Wow livens up the weekend of March 1-2 at Wisconsin State Fair Park, Wisconsin Products Pavilion, 8100 W. Greenfield Ave.Special features this year include performances by an Aztec dance troupe at 5 p.m. Saturday. Flautist & flute-maker Tommy Lee will perform Saturday & Sunday at 11:00 AM. On Sunday, there is a Prayer Ceremony at 10 AM. The Prayer Ceremony will include a water ceremony that traditionally provides cleansing, healing and unifying to the people. A coffee and sweets social (benefiting the Siggenauk Interfaith Center) will follow.
Saturday, University Wisconsin, Milwaukee School of Continuing Education will conduct two workshops: Native Art workshop for Teachers & Make a "Talking Stick". For registration and workshop information call 414-227-3200 or online.
Pow-wow hours are 11 am-10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday. Grand entry times are 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $6/adults, $3/children 6 -12 years and seniors over 55. Children under 6 are admitted free.
The pow-wow features an American Indian Market, where arts and crafts, traditional foods and herbs, jewelry, books and other items are available for purchase. Indian Summer is proud to announce the release of "Thunder Drums". Recorded during the 2002 festival pow-wow, all proceeds benefit the Indian Summer Festival scholarship fund.
