Band of Cherokee Indians, a community approximately twelve thousand strong
in the mountains of western North Carolina. For the most part, these artists
have learned from their families and community, using materials native to
the southern Appalachians and calling on traditions passed down for many
generations. They are among the best practitioners of traditional Cherokee
culture. With the exception of a few elders who stay close to home, the
artists and consultants listed here are willing to travel and present
programs about some aspect of Cherokee culture."

- Hi Wasi Pi Singers "The Hi Wasi Pi singers are all members of
the Ho-Chunk Nation of State of Wisconsin. The Hi Wasi Pi Singers
(Hee-wah-Shee-Peen) which means, "Music that is good/easy to dance
to" were formed in the summer of 2002. We sing the traditional Heydushka
songs of the Ho-Chunk Nation to a more contemporary southern beat."

Tlacopan” is a nahuatl term meaning “En El Esplandor de Tlacopan” in
Spanish or “In the Splendor of Tlacopan” in English. Our group is named
such because our Aztec(Mexica) traditions come from the barrio of Tlacopan
(today known as “Tacuba”) in Mexico City. Our dances represent the splendor
of our Mexica culture. Through these dances, we not only honor our Mexica
ancestors, but we also preserve our historical and cultural Mexica identities.
