THEFT OF OJIBWE REGALIA
On August 24, 1995, six Ojibwe items from Bemidji State University Lanham
Collection of native American Artifacts were stolen while on loan for an
exhibition at the Bemidji Community Arts Center, Bemidji, Minnesota.
The items are the following:
- One Woman's Jingle Dress
(Black cotton with tin jingles and two rhinestone pins);
- One Fully Beaded Man's Dance Vest (floral design);
- Two Man's Leggings (black cotton with beaded floral design);
- Beaded Pipe Bag (flower on one side and bird on the other);
- Beaded Dance Apron
(floral beading on black cotton, two pieces-front and back);
- Beaded Deer Hide (five beaded sections).
The university is offering a $1000 reward for the return of all items,
no questions asked.

Recent similar thefts in adjacent states have been reported but authorities
and the Indian community are looking into local leads also.
