Cherokee councilors voted Thursday night in an Executive and Finance Committee meeting to dismiss a civil lawsuit against former Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Wilma Mankiller.

The suit involved about $300,000 in severance pay meted out to tribal officials and department heads who resigned when Mankiller’s last term ended in July 1995.

Mankiller always had claimed that part of the money was for vacation pay and other monies due the individuals.

Councilors Dora Mae Watie and Chuck Hoskins were the sole no votes. The matter now automatically goes to full council vote in the councils April meeting.
